Torq Zone Academy Internship Programme
Torq Zone Academy has come up with an innovative way to address this skills shortage by offering a six month internship to train bicycle technicians against the internationally recognised, United Kingdom based Cytech technical scheme.
The Bicycle Technician Internship is designed to provide aspiring young unemployed black bicycle technicians with class-based knowledge and practical training, and a hands-on workplace-based structured learning experience, allowing them to gain valuable skills and knowledge in bicycle maintenance, repair, and customer service.
The internship is a one-month class-based programme at Torq Zone Academy that is combined with a five-month work-based internship at a bicycle servicing and repair workshop. The internship would preferably be against the Senior Technician Programme, but can also be done against the Junior Technician Programme.
Torq Zone Academy in conjunction with RISE Training Academy has packaged the internship for BEE purposes. Each corporate sponsoring a technician will attract points under the Skills Development element with all documentation being provided. In addition corporates are encouraged to make use of the services of these technicians for the cyclists in their company. This extends the internship into a supplier development relationship.
